"Eclectic" may best describe these two Connecticut counties. From wave-lapped shores to mountainous summits under great arcs of sky. Stretches of tidy hayfields that invite the long canter. Lazy trails winding through woods and songs of birds. Populous neighborhoods convenient to the Manhattan commute. Rural tranquility close to bordering MA and NY states. A grand eclectic setting for a state that ranks fifth in the United States for the highest concentration of horses per acre.
Equestrian activities, too, are a delight of variation both in-county and spilling over from adjacent New York State. A profusion of competitions--local and recognized shows, rodeo, driving, regional championships, hunter pace, sleigh rally, dressage, eventing, etc. But just as busy are clubs, fox hunting, Pony Club, and various other non-profit organizations. From time to time, gathered here will be a sampling of equestrian offerings to tempt the newcomer (CHF does not charge for this directory and the list should not be considered an endorsement by either party). If you have others to suggest, CHF would like to hear from you.
Fairfield and Litchfield Counties Riding and Trails Associations Newtown Bridle Lands Association (NBLA) Non-profit association maintains trails, helps preserve open space, sponsors horse-related activities. 203.426.2655 |
